Sea World San Diego gave media members a sneak peak at their 2020 plans Saturday morning. Several attendees confirmed that the park will be receiving Mako, a 153-foot-tall Dive Coaster built by Bollinger and Mabillard (B&M) to go along with a revamp of their Shark Encounter attraction. Not much of the layout has been released, but we do understand from the artwork shown that it will feature the standard Immelmann loop after the vertical drop. Mako looks to be one of several new roller coasters coming to Sea World Parks in 2020 as the company looks to make a big comeback in the theme park industry. Sea World San Diego in particular has seen several big investments in recent years including Electric Eel a Sky Rocket II model launch coaster built by Premier Rides just last year. Mako will be California’s tallest dive coaster edging out Hangtime at Knott’s Berry Farm by three feet. This 2020 addition will also be the first dive coaster built by B&M on the west coast. An official announcement of the Mako should be expected in the coming days. 2020 is shaping up to be a major year for new roller coasters.
