Debuting in 2018, Silver Dollar City will open Time Traveler, Mack Rides first extreme spinning roller coaster. This 26-million dollar attraction is the biggest investment in the park's history. Featuring several never been done before elements on a spinning coaster, this ride will be quite the draw for thrill seekers around the world. Time Traveler will feature a 90-degree drop, three inversions (dive loop, vertical loop and zero-g-roll) and two launches. Silver Dollar City says the spinning cars are "gravity driven but controlled magnetically" in order to keep the trains from spinning wildly out of control. The coaster's custom layout will hug the mountainous Ozark terrain and feature many heavily banked turns along the 3,020 feet of track. Time Traveler construction has already begun with lots of track already in place. The park hopes to have this time traveling experience ready for opening day 2018.
My thoughts:
Time Traveler looks to be one of the most unique coaster experiences in the world. The vertical drop, three inversions and double launch alone would make this an amazing coaster but now you add the spinning car element and you will have a completely disorienting and wild experience. The spinning aspect has been a concern for many, as some enthusiast believe the spin would detract rom the experience. After watching the latest animations, I believe the controlled spinning will enhance the intensity of the ride but keep the spinning from being to nauseating. For me the highlight of the ride looks to be the vertical drop out of the station. With the potential to free fall forwards, backwards or side ways the experience will be constantly changing. Regardless of how Time Traveler turns out, this will be a ground breaking coaster that will lead the way for other extreme spinning coasters in the future. Check out the official ride animation below from Silver Dollar City.
