Kings Dominion announced on Wednesday morning that they will be receiving Twisted Timbers, Rocky Mountain Construction's latest wooden coaster conversion. This comes as no surprise to those following the recent closure of Hurler one the park's wooden rollercoasters. New maroon I-Box track has already been in the process of being installed weeks before Wednesday's big announcement. What was unknown up until this point was the theming and statistics. But now it has finally been revealed that Twisted Timbers will feature a barrel roll drop, three inversions and 20 moments of airtime. This ride will also reach a top speed of 54 MPH. The POVs released on this coaster uncover a relentless experience through the Hanover Hill Orchard from beginning to end.
Now Twisted Timbers has mysterious theme to it. The ride takes you through the spooky Hanover Hill Orchard sitting just outside Candy Apple Grove. The story explains how the land was ripped apart by something unknown. The scorched forest was deserted ever since. Now for the first time, riders will be allowed to visit this orchard at their own risk. Now the Twisted Timbers name might seem familiar to you. That's because King's Dominion's sister park Kings Island just installed Mystic Timbers a GCI wooden coaster in 2017. This too had a haunting theme to it as you encounter different beasts hidden in the forest while driving through the shed. They also both feature classic car style trains. Although the theming is very similar, this Candy Apple forest will have a completely different and more viscous bite to it.
My thoughts:
When I first viewed the POV my initial reaction was "this is going to have a Storm Chaser style to it." The barrel roll drop and focus on ejector air are what makes Storm Chaser at Kentucky Kingdom amazing. Twisted Timbers seems to take that style and take to another level with it's three inversions and 20 airtime moments. If the ride experience is anything close to Storm Chaser than coaster enthusiast are certainly in for a treat. Twisted Timbers looks to be another airtime filled winner from RMC.
